Thèmes de recherche développés

Le dénominateur commun de mes recherches est l’appréhension de la géomorphologie comme résultat des interactions entre processus tectoniques et climatiques. En particulier, je cherche à quantifier l’impact de ces processus sur la morphogénèse à différentes échelles spatiales (de l’affleurement à la chaîne de montagnes) et temporelles (des milliers aux centaines de millions d’années). Pour ce faire, je couple l’analyse morphotectonique et paléosismologique avec des techniques de géochronologie de surface et sub-surface, telles que la méthode ¹⁰Be in situ et les traces de fission sur apatite.

Voici mes axes de recherche principaux :

-         Détermination de vitesses de glissement long-terme des failles

(Vassallo et al., Terra Nova 2005 ; Ritz et al., GSA 2006)

-         Caractérisation du cycle sismique

-         Etude de l’interaction entre tectonique et climat dans les systèmes fluviatiles

Représentation des cycles d’aggradation, surrection et incision le long d’une rivière d’après la cartographie, la mesure de la topographie et la datation des terrasses alluviales étagées du massif d’Ih Bogd, Gobi-Altay, Mongolie.  (Vassallo et al., Tectonics 2007)
